Never Had I Known
An poetic excerpt from The Sahara Chronicles Book 3.
It is a well-established fact
That when the Darkness covers up,
It is the Light that beats it back;
But never had I known
The Darkness beating the Light.
~~~
Never had I known
That a young girl I knew long ago
Would now come back into my life
To offer me my salvation.
~~~
Never had I known
That I was so deep in hatred,
That I would need someone
To dig me up into the sunlight.
~~~
I regret with all my heart
The deep sorrow I harboured,
For how was she to know
That she’d turn out the way she had?
The future is unknown and relentless –
But had I known it,
I would’ve gladly taken her away
And hidden her from the rest of the world.
~~~
Never had I known
That a young girl I knew long ago
Would now come back into my life
To offer me my salvation.
~~~
Never had I known
That I was so deep in hatred,
That I would need someone
To dig me up into the sunlight.
~~~
I deeply cherish with all my heart
The desire I harboured for her,
The one who gave me
Everything I am to-day;
I deeply cherish with all my heart
The yearning I harboured for her,
Every moment that she wasn’t with me.
~~~
But now that she’s safe
And with people who love her,
I choose to be at peace
And give her the space she needs
To recover from the hurt and heartache
Of a friend who died before her.
~~~
I shall take my leave now,
My dearest,
So I shall never have the opportunity
To hurt you
More than you already have.
