Call of Thunder Part LXXXI
You may be a fan of my work or just want to test if my writing style suits you, I'm just glad you're here. Just beware that this is a continuation of my epic fantasy series, The Sahara Chronicles.
During the private audience with the gerier in his chambers, Corell told them in detail about everything that she knew transpired in the Dark Palace, right until the moment they stepped into the Palace of Cordelia. The two men listened in silence, with the younger only nodding now and then in order to encourage her to go on. Although the girl felt a little uneasy about the older man’s behaviour, she went on.
At long last, Doriath turned to the older man. “What do you think, Linel?”
“What I think,” muttered the man in question, “is to get Jim back and destroy Rumplestiltskin. I know he’s the one behind the abduction – nobody else could be!”
He nodded. “Agreed. But based on what Ms Lackworth said, don’t you think there’s some queer connection between him and the cloner – don’t you think?”
Linel turned abruptly at this. “What? You think?”
“I think the cloner is trying to delay Rumplestiltskin’s discovery as much as he can. He knows there will be a war.” He paused for effect. “Until now, he’s been confident to win, but after the dragons pledged support, he was suddenly not so sure. What do you think?”
He narrowed his eyes. “That does make sense.”
“Doesn’t it. Now, I wonder why that is.”
Just as Linel was wrapping his head around the question, a magical orb suddenly materialised beside him, making his head turn towards it suddenly. He touched it lightly and the cloud in the orb cleared to show a face. Elmeida.
“Linel, is that you? Is the gerier nearby?”
“He’s with me, El.”
“Good. Doriath Truna II, I want you to prepare for war. Can you do that?”
Doriath smiled, showing up in front of the orb. “Greetings, Morgana Mathra. Of course, I can get ready for war. You have nothing to fear from me – for, I shall give you all of my loyalty and support – and the same goes to my men and women.”
Elmeida nodded. “My heart gladdens upon hearing that. But I want you to really prepare for a war. You know how it was with Second Battle of Apophis before? We had no clue how to fight our enemies and we just barely managed to scrape out of there in one piece. We didn’t what a battle was then, until we faced one. None of us alive know what a war is going to be, either. Only lucky old ones like Celia and Merlin know what it means to fight a war.”
As she spoke, Doriath’s face turned grim.
“Once the conch shell blows, it’s every man for himself. Or every woman for herself. Children and weak mortals should be kept in safe confinement.” She paused, seemingly looking at something beside her, likely on a desk, the gerier thought. “I have detailed information about Cordelia with me. It is surrounded by hills on the western frontier, isn’t it? Sharing with Grant? I think you should co-ordinate with the Grant to keep the weaker ones safe.”
Doriath nodded once. “Yes, ma’am, will do.”
“Good. Thank you. I’ll contact Geria Lilly Starr about this plan and let her know she should contact you.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“All right then. That’s what I called to ask for.” She saluted, which the gerier returned.
